Over the course of my career, I’ve lived many lives. I started at Syracuse University where I earned a BFA in Art. After graduation I impressed my parents by immediately getting a job delivering pizzas for Dominos. Not long after, I got my first job as a photojournalist, working for the Albany Bureau of UPI.

After stints with the Auburn Citizen, Passaic Herald-News, New York Newsday and the Newark NJ Bureau of the Associated Press I became staff photographer, photo editor and multimedia producer for Gannett NJ Press Media Group, a place I called home for nearly three decades.

In 2019, I took a buyout and followed my wife down to North Carolina. Little did I know that after my “early retirement” I was about to find a renewed inspiration and passion for photojournalism with my mother’s voice in my head whispering, “Robert, you have to keep reinventing yourself if you want to stay relevant.”

Throughout my career, I’ve captured eight US Presidents, traveled throughout the U.S. and over twenty-five countries, documenting a 1999 earthquake in the coffee-growing region of Colombia and the 2000 government transfer of the Panama Canal and its effect on local readers.

I’ve covered New York Jets, Giants, Mets and Yankees during training camps, regular season, playoffs and championships, photographed the New Jersey Nets as well as the Stanley Cup-winning New Jersey Devils. My love for triathlons also had me covering the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii for Triathlete Magazine. I’ve covered diverse assignments from Tim Tebow-mania to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

I’ve photographed the 9/11 attacks in New York City and their aftermath, Hurricanes Irene and Sandy and their effects on New Jersey. I’m a veteran of two 24-hour photo projects and author of a blog called, "The Photojournalist," offering a glimpse into the challenges and realities in the life of a news photographer.

In 2019, I was the recipient of the prestigious Medallion from the Silurians Press Club Journalism Awards for my Breaking News image, “Class Trip Turns Deadly” as well as being part of the winning The Record/NorthJersey.com team winning a Medallion for Breaking News Reporting. I’m also a two-time winner of the North Carolina Press Association’s ‘Hugh Morton Photographer of the Year.’

In addition to photojournalism, I’m a former competitive runner and Ironman triathlete.
