A deer-rescue effort on a Roxbury pond took a dramatic turn as an amphibious vehicle holding five first responders sank, casting its crew into freezing-cold water.

The crew was rescued by members of Roxbury Fire department and the deer, which had been stuck on surface ice of the pond for more than 24 hours was also rescued and brought to a shelter for treatment.

The crew and the deer all fully recovered, while the two-year-old $100,000 Hydratrek vehicle operated by the Morris County Office of Emergency Management will soon be its way back to the manufacturer for assessment and repairs.
